GoldFynch allows you to merge one case into another upon request and upon review of the cases. This is often used when data has been split across multiple cases and needs to be consolidated. Below is an overview of what happens during a merge and what to expect.

What Gets Merged

  • Files:
All files are copied into the destination case. If the same file exists in both cases, duplicates will remain. GoldFynch does not deduplicate automatically during a case merge.

  • Tags:
Tags with identical names will be merged. However, if one tag is applied at the family level and the other is not, this may cause conflicts or unexpected results.

What Does Not Get Merged

  • Review Sets

  • Generated Productions

  • Reports and Dashboards

Only files and tags are included in the merge. Review sets, productions, and related work product are case-specific and cannot be merged across cases.

Best Practices for Case Merges

  1. Choose the Larger Case as the Main Case
Merging the smaller case into the larger one typically results in a faster process. If you don’t have a strong preference, GoldFynch recommends making the larger case the destination case.

  2. Prepare for Duplicates
Because files are copied, duplicates will exist after the merge. You may want to run deduplication workflows once the merge is complete.

  3. Check Tag Consistency
If you have tags that are applied differently (e.g., family vs. non-family), review them ahead of time to avoid confusion post-merge.

How to Request a Case Merge

If you’d like to merge cases:

  1. Submit a technical support request from within your GoldFynch case. Click here for related instructions.

  2. Specify:

    • Which case should serve as the Main (destination) case

    • Which case(s) should be merged into it

    • Any special instructions or considerations (e.g., tag conflicts you are aware of)

Our support team will confirm details and proceed if possible, with the merge.

Limitations to Keep in Mind

  • Merges are limited to files and tags.

  • Work products (review sets, productions, reports) must be recreated manually in the destination case.

  • The process may take longer if both cases are large or if extensive tag conflicts exist.
